A voice down
the line wraps
itself loosely
around my finger.
Perhaps it’s a murmur
of rain on dust-tongued
animals stampeding
to wetlands.
Or a memory
of water for succulents
as dew dries their sun-
quenched limbs.
Your…voice distant
is dense summer cloud
swallowing its rumour
to rain elsewhere.
